Description

on an ebonized stand, signed in a cartouche: “POSITION des Etoiles Fixes pour l’Année 1780. / Par le Sr. Fortin, Ingen. Géogr. à Paris.”, the globe successively shows : the 360° graduations in degrees of the circumference north of the Equator, the monthly graduations; the division of the signs of the Zodiac and their correspondence with the degree graduations; the graduation of the Winds, the meridian with degree graduation for the elevation of the Arctic and Antarctic Poles; and the division of the climates and hours

This globe is part of a set of four spheres of the same size and mounted in the same way, originating from Fortin's workshop, which was later bought by Charles-François Delamarche. A similar example is kept at the Richelieu Library in Paris. (GE A-1945).
