Sotheby’s Paris, 20 April 2012, lot 123

Robert Osmond (1711- 789), bronze maker, received master in 1746.

The preparatory study for our clock and a clock identical to ours are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen I, Munich, 1986, p. 195, figs. 3.12.5 and 3.12.7. The preparatory study shows the model with a simpler base without putti and the musical trophy. This drawing, kept at the Jacques Doucet Library (VI E 15 Rès), is attributed to François Vion or Robert Osmond, although most of the known clocks inspired by this drawing bear Osmond's signature.

A clock similar to ours, but decorated with a floral bouquet instead of the urn above the dial, was sold at Christie's Paris on 7 December 2005, lot 185 (€18,000).
