Description
WORKSHOP OF LORENZO BARTOLINI (1777-1850)
ITALIAN, 19TH CENTURY
DIRCE, OR BACCHANTE
white marble
36 by 80cm., 14⅛ by 31½in.
This beautiful marble is carved after one of Lorenzo Bartolini's most successful models, the Dirce or Bacchante (circa 1834) which is now in the musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no. RF 3605). The reduced scale of the present marble adds a precious quality, and the carving is particularly fine in the hair. The quality is very fine and is worthy of the Bartolini workshop.
