XAVIER MARIE AUGUSTE COURTET, CALLED AUGUSTIN | DIANA

Born in Lyon, Augustin Courtet enjoyed a successful career in Paris, where he executed sculpture for the Louvre and several churches, as well as the cemeteries of Montparnasse and Père-Lachaise. This beautiful group of the goddess of hunting with her dog takes inspiration from the much-copied antique Diana of Versailles, which has been housed in the Louvre since 1798.
