Patek Philippe

The Patek Philippe reference 5078, which went into production in 2005, is a timepiece of exceptional craftsmanship. Originally introduced with a white enamel dial, this particular example showcases a black lacquered dial, which was launched in 2008. Housed in a refined 38 mm platinum case, the contrasting white Roman numerals against the elegant black dial exudes timeless sophistication.

At the heart of the reference 5078 lies the meticulously finished caliber R 27 PS. This automatic movement features a micro-rotor, and powers a minute repeating mechanism with cathedral gongs activated through the slide on the left side of the case. Patek Philippe's minute repeaters are renowned for their exceptional acoustic quality. However, due to the limited size of wristwatches, the gongs used in their construction are also relatively small. The introduction of cathedral gongs by Patek Philippe in the early 2000s addressed this limitation, allowing for a longer reverberation. Unlike traditional gongs that circle the movement once, cathedral gongs are nearly twice as long. This innovative design choice amplifies the richness and resonance of the chimes, resulting in a more captivating and musical experience.
