Patek Philippe made a deliberate choice to unveil the Grand Complication Reference 5374G at the Rare Handcrafts Exhibition in Geneva in June 2021, rather than earlier in the year at Watches and Wonders, where the spotlight was dominated by the launch of two new steel sports watches: the green-dialed Nautilus 5711/1300A-001 and 5711/1A-014. The introduction of a new edition of the already beloved Ref 5374P was launched amongst esteemed watches such as the Ref 5304/301R Minute Repeater Retrograde Perpetual Calendar and the Ref. 7040/250G-001 Rare Handcrafts Minute Repeater. Initially launched in 2016 and available only in platinum with a black dial, the introduction of the blue enamel dial gives the double complication of minute repeater and perpetual calendar a more informal and slightly more casual appearance.

This blue enamel dial features classic Patek design elements, including applied Breguet numerals and luminous leaf hands. The perpetual calendar information is displayed clearly through the registers at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, with the moon phase located traditionally just below the hands. The sculpted white gold case, at 42 mm, gives the watch an imposing and modern look. Behind the dial lies the R27 Q movement, comprised of 467 individual parts, adorned with the Geneva seal, and equipped with Cathedral Gongs that circle the movement twice, producing louder, longer chimes than conventional gongs.

According to research, this marks the first time a Ref 5374G has been offered at auction.
