A koboshi-bachi [helmet with small standing rivets]

The helmet bowl Edo period, 17th – 18th century 

 

the black lacquered iron sixty-two plate bowl with small standing rivets of goshozan form, terminating in a copper-gilt five-stage tehen kanamono of stylised chrysanthemum form, the peak applied in stencilled Dutch leather, copper-gilt fukurin, the large turnbacks applied in stencilled Dutch leather and copper-gilt anabishi mon, the three-tiered gold lacquer neck guard in kiritsuke-kozane [false lamellae] with closed spaced lacing in white and purple braid, the gilt metal maedate in the form of a ring (wa), gilt metal kuwagata surmounted on an elaborate gilt metal maedate-dai pierced with chrysanthemums among foliage and inome [stylised boar’s eyes]
