Horizontal oban: 24.8 x 36.7 cm., 9¾ x 14½ in.
The poem by Ono no Takamura (802-853) has been translated by Peter MacMillan in One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each: A Treasury of Classical Japanese Verse, (London, 2016), p. 15:
Fishing boats upon the sea,
tell whoever asks
that I have sailed away,
out past countless islets
to the vast ocean beyond.
