An altar clock, South German/Austrian, early 18th century


silvered, giltwood and silver-mounted, 6¾-inch silvered chapter ring signed Jo: Korner, Leqben, gilt repousse centre below a spherical moon with lunar date ring, the movement with chain fusee to the going train with verge escapement and front-mounted pendulum, standing barrel to the striking train with external locking plate strike (bell lacking), the ornate tiered case surmounted by a silver terrestrial globe above a plaque depicting Diana with a hound, the stepped and moulded plinth with a frieze drawer containing a mirror, the whole decorated with pastes, spiral ruby glass pillars and applied with repoussé foliate scrolls
