Actress, performer, and vocalist Cindy Lubar was a mainstay of New York City’s artistic subculture in the 1970s and 1980s. Hujar photographed Lubar in costume for her role in A Letter for Queen Victoria, a three-hour opera directed by Robert Wilson. After a successful run in Spoleto, La Rochelle, and Paris, the avant garde production debuted on New York City’s Broadway in 1975.
Prints of this image are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Princeton University Museum, and the Morgan Library & Museum, New York.
