Description

Sarcophagus-shaped, the front centered with two coats-of-arms divided by a lion mask, modern crimson velvet lining, the sides with carrying handles, one hinge marked “W 20 5/8 R.”, the other hinge stamped

Batavia, now in Indonesia, was colonized by the Dutch in 1609 and was a significant trading center of the Dutch East Indies throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Many Dutch families unofficially displayed their coats-of-arms, making identification impossible.
