Alison Castle, Marc Newson. Works 84-24, Koln, 2024, p. 97 and 491

At the same time as he conceived the Even Horizon tables, Marc Newson chose to create a version with a glass top, offering a more adapted surface to daily use. Named “Chop Top”, in reference to the term used for cars turned into convertible by sawing their top off, this model offers not only resistant and functional surfaces, but also unveils the inside of the table in “Ferrari” red lacquer, underlining the sculptural power of the piece which fully embodies the vision of Marc Newson : a design that defies metal’s rigidity in order to reveal its fluidity and sensuality.

With the Event Horizon and even more with the Even Horizon Chop Top that we present here, Marc Newson eventually transforms metal into a material surprisingly flexible, possibly stretched and modelled. Manufactured by a firm specialised in the restauration of Aston Martins, this table shows the exceptional knowledge of skilled panel beaters, experts in welding and crafting aluminum.
