A jade ‘winged dragon’ pendant, Han dynasty | 漢　玉翼龍紋珮

The present jade pendant carved as a winged dragon is particularly rare. Compare with two closely related examples with similarly carved winged dragons, excavated from important royal tombs of the Han dynasty, including a jade pendant excavated from the tomb of the King of Chu at Shizishan, Xuzhou, illustrated in Da Han Chu Wang: Xuzhou Xihan Chuwang lingmu wenwu jicui, Beijing, 2005, p. 282, and another unearthed from Sushantou, Xuzhou, is illustrated in Xu Zhou Han Mu, 2018, Jiangsu, p.538. Compare a related jade dragon pendant, Han dynasty, decorated with dragon and phoenix in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade, Vol. 4, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Beijing, 2011, p.163, pl.212, with similar carving techniques and stylistic features to the present lot.

玉質青白，局部帶褐色沁斑。此玉珮雕琢翼龍一隻，側身呈橫向展開之姿，昂首挺胸，口微張作咆哮狀，眉目清晰且氣宇昂然，龍身修長，背部雕刻一對翅翼舒展而出，尾部飾以卷雲紋，整體雕工細緻流暢，線條簡潔典雅，富有動感。此類帶翼龍紋的玉佩，於漢代玉器中尤為少見，顯示其特殊的地位與重要性。

此件翼龍紋珮可比較的考古實例包括徐州獅子山楚王陵出土的一件漢代龍紋玉珩，見《大漢楚王：徐州西漢楚王陵墓文物輯萃》，北京，2005，頁282，以及徐州蘇山頭漢墓出土的蟠龍紋玉珩，見《徐州漢墓》下冊，2018，江蘇，頁538，形式與紋樣皆頗類似，皆為漢代王侯貴族墓葬所出，說明此類飾翼龍形象的玉佩當時主要為貴族階層之配飾，且具備特殊的象徵意義及地位。另可比較北京故宮博物院藏一件漢代玉龍鳳紋珮，見《故宮博物院藏品大系：玉器編4：漢魏晉南北朝》，北京，2011年，頁163，圖版212，其紋飾雕刻風格與本件頗有相通之處 。本品原配錦盒上貼有「紅標」，曾被選入《藍田山房藏玉百選》備選展品，後因品類多樣而未能展出，足見藏家對本品之重視。
