A Worcester (Flight, Barr and Barr) Pale Green-Ground Pedestal Vase, Circa 1815
of Warwick Vase form with two gilt entwined handles and gadroon and pearl borders, raised on a square plinth, painted probably by Thomas Baxter, with a scene from the poem The Task by William Cowper, reserved on a pale-green ground and neoclassical and foliate scroll ornament, raised on a pedestal formed of gilt columns, gilt with a 'cracked ice' top, painted with a vignette of a young girl reading

The scene is taken from a drawing by Richard Westall R.A (1765-1836), who provided illustrations for poems by William Cowper. The scene accompanies the passage, 'He would stroke the head of modest and ingenuous worth that blush'd at its own praise'. Westall became Royal Academician in 1794, and painted for the Shakespeare Gallery and the Milton Gallery. He published and illustrated a book of his own verse titled 'A day in Spring' in 1808.
