Edo period, 17th century
the black lacquered iron bowl of namigashira-nari [cresting wave] form, the peak with furrowed brow, small black lacquer turnbacks, five-tiered black lacquer neck guard with spaced lacing in leather braid, linen and leather interior lining
35 cm., 13¾ in. wide
Accompanied by a certificate of registration Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Object], no. 2143 issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon-kai [The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armour], dated Reiwa 5 (2023).
