the russet iron somen formed to resemble the face of an elderly man (okina), boldly hammered and chased, with undulating furrowed brow, wrinkles and deeply set eyes, detachable nose plate, broad yak hair moustache, gold lacquer teeth, gold on black lacquer interior, two tiered black lacquered throat protector with stenciled Dutch leather edging
21.5 cm., 8½ in. high
Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Object], issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon-kai [The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armour].
