A somen [full face mask]

Edo period, 17th century


the russet iron somen chased and carved with a deep furrowed brow, detachable nose plate, silvered teeth, red lacquer interior, leather mounted throat protector of two tiers in black lacquer, laced with close-spaced lacing in blue braid
