Born in Krasnoyarsk in 1947, Elena Gritsenko started her education at the Krasnoyarsk State Institute of Art, later entering the I.E. Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. During her student years, Gritsenko met Vladimir Sterligov - an avant-garde painter and poet and a former student of Kazimir Malevich, who had a profound influence on her style. Between 1972 and 1988 the artist participated in a series of exhibitions organized by Sterligov and his wife, the artist Tatiana Glebova, in their Leningrad studio. Since 1988, Gritsenko has been a member of the Union of Artists. She currently lives and works in St Petersburg.
