decorated with scrolling foliage, with an assorted rouge griotte marble top, with an apocryph stamp of BVRB; (restoration to the veneer and remounted)

This marquetry of scrolling foliages in amaranth and lighter woods, sometimes tulipwood or plum, is typical of the work of Adrien Delorme. Several works have been attributed to him with these same characteristics, including
a commode with these same designs but with more bronze ornamentation sold at Sotheby's London, 12 November 2019, lot 118, a table (see P. Kjellberg, op.cit. p. 283, ill.c.) and a commode of more modest dimensions than the present example (ill. P. Kjellberg, op.cit. p. 245, ill.e. (fig.2)).
Geoffrey de Bellaigue also mentions a commode with this marquetry, previously in the collection of the Marchioness of Landsdowne (G. De Bellaigue, The James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, Vol I, London, 1974, p.280).

Cette marqueterie d'enroulements feuillagés en amarante et bois plus clair parfois du bois de rose ou du prunier est typique de l'oeuvre d'Adrien Delorme. Plusieurs oeuvres lui sont ainsi attribuées avec ces mêmes caractéristiques, citons
une commode avec ces mêmes dessins mais avec des ornementations de bronze plus nombreuses vendue chez Sotheby's Londres, le 12 novembre 2019, lot 118, une table (voir P. Kjellberg, op.cit. p. 283, ill.c.) et une commode, de dimensions plus modestes que le présent exemple ( ill. P. Kjellberg, op.cit. p. 245, ill.e. (fig.2)).
