A RARE DOCUMENTARY MEISSEN HAUSMALER TEABOWL CIRCA 1725
painted in Augsburg by Sabina Auffenwerth for her sister Anna Elisabeth Wald, with gilt-edged cartouches of Venus and Cupid and Leda and the Swan, embellished with iron-red and purple scrollwork, the sides with further scrollwork and arabesques supporting baskets of flowers flanked by birds, one side reserving initials in black enamel A E/ W, the other side initial E, the interior painted with a turkey with a gilt-edged C-scroll band at the rim, the underside with gilt cypher subjectively read SAW for Sabina Auffenwerth.

This exceptionally rare teabowl is one of very few documentary pieces from the Auffenwerth workshop known to have survived. It was discovered only recently before it was sold in 1974. Johann Auffenwerth decorated Meissen porcelain from about 1718. He was later joined by his daughters Anna Elisabeth and Sabina who continued the decorating workshop after their father's death in 1728.
