This exceptionally rare teabowl is one of very few documentary pieces from the Auffenwerth workshop known to have survived. It was discovered only recently before it was sold in 1974. Johann Auffenwerth decorated Meissen porcelain from about 1718. He was later joined by his daughters Anna Elisabeth and Sabina who continued the decorating workshop after their father's death in 1728. For further reading on Sabina Auffenwerth see Siegfried Ducret, Meißner Porzellan, bemalt in Augsburg, 1718 bis um 1750, Brunswick, 1971, Band II, pp. 10-13, figs. 47-75.
