Description
Château d'Yquem 1983
Sauternes, 1er Grand Cru Classé
Levels bn or into neck, 3 slightly scuffed labels, 2 scuffed labels, 1 signs of old seepage
At an incredible Fête des Rois dinner in 2020, drunk of course with La Galette des Rois which is my favourite 'sweet nothing' of all time! And this bottle was the best 1983 I have ever had, gorgeous in its freshness and citric beauty. There is a real peachiness to it, with silky purity and endless dimension of flavour. Some 1983s have a tarry botrytis element, but here there is zingy, zesty fruit to match the sweetness, with a finish that defies the clock. We were all stunned - this wine is destined for eternal life. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

WA 96[TASTER:PARKER]The 1983 is among the most concentrated wines from thisproperty over the last 20 years, with a staggering display of extractand a mind-boggling amount of glycerin... Most observers feel the 1983...will last for almost 100 years. Given Yquem's unbelievable agingpotential, such comments do not seem far fetched... the 1983 isenormous, with huge, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and caramel flavors, massive extract, and an unctuous quality barely framed by acidity andnew oak.
