William Fritsche (1853-1924) is widely considered one of the finest glass engravers working in England in the late 19th and early 20th century. In 1868 he was recruited to work for Thomas Webb & Sons glass works at Dennis Hall near Stourbrige, West Midlands, eventually running his own engraving workshop within the works. He introduced the wheel-engraving techniques of Tiefschnitt, “deep cut” and high relief Hochschnitt, “high cut”, popularised in his native Bohemia during the 17th century.
