The llama was one of the most important camelid animals in the ancient Andean world; they provided fine wool for textiles, they were sacrificed to the gods in ceremonies and they were venerated in all forms of art. This wood vessel is a lively depiction of the llama’s head showing the mouth open, prominent tongue, ears pulled back, and a thin cord head encircling the head.
