The Unrelenting Struggle. London: Cassell and Co., 1942
8vo. Publisher's dark blue morocco, lettered in gilt, watered silk endleaves, top edge gilt; upper cover a little scratched.
First edition deluxe binding, inscribed by the author to G.C. Mason, 1943.
The Unrelenting Struggle contains 72 of Churchill's wartime speeches, broadcasts and messages to Parliament from November 1940 to 1941 during what were some of the bleakest periods of war. Churchill published his war speeches between 1941 and 1946 in seven volumes with the help of his son, Randolph. When it came to the present volume, Randolph was serving in Africa. Charles Eade, Editor of the Sunday Dispatch, took over the role. The volume ends with the renowned speeches he gave in North America to the U.S. Congress and to the Canadian Parliament following the attack on Pearl Harbour.
