Description
Paiste symphonic gong with early Paiste Chinese character logo with diameter measuring 36 in. Stage-used by Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.
Hammered metal gong with air travel stickers affixed and “ZEPPELIN” airbrushed in white on reverse. Suspended via two holes and attached rope in top rim. Gong exhibits stage-use, as indicated by the concave indentation from repeated banging of the gong, as well as noticeable char from Bonham’s practice of setting the gong on fire during the band’s live performances. The present gong was used on stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1970.
Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham has been immortalized as one of the greatest drummers of all time, celebrated for his speed, power, groove, and iconic drum solos. His untimely death in 1980 catalyzed the band’s breakup, but not before the group would irrevocably alter the landscape of rock music with their inventive sound and technical skill as musicians.
