Description

3¼-inch enamel dial signed Gudin A Paris, the movement with silk suspension and star-cut outside count wheel striking on a bell, the drum with ribbon-tied laurel dial surround and housed within a truncated fluted pillar surmounted by an urn and attended by two seated winged putti engaged in the sciences, on a stepped plinth,

 

42cm. 16½in. high

The design of this clock can be found in the design books of Robert and Jean-Baptiste Osmond, drawing No. 81. Titled; Piece à colonne emaille verd vaze avec deux genies soc à carrillion.


An almost identical clock, though with gilt putti, was sold Sotheby's Amsterdam, 29th September 2008, Lot 90 for €18,750
