Description

each with a frieze drawer with front flap opening to reveal a later gilt-tooled leather writing surface, on castors, both stamped "A.WEISWEILER', the higher example with labels for 'Didier Aaron/Smith Keck LA'


One (with the fluted mounts above the legs): 78.5cm high, 81cm wide, 48cm deep; 30 7/8in., 31 7/8in., 18 7/8in.


The other (with the plain mounts above the legs): 76cm high, 81cm wide, 47cm deep; 29 7/8in., 31 7/8in., 18 1/2in.

These tables are part of a small group of similar examples made by the famous ébéniste Adam Weisweiler in the late 18th century.


An almost identical table, also signed by Weisweiler and bearing marks for the Château de Versailles, and the Château de Villeneuve-l'Etang, was sold, Sotheby's, Monaco, 27th May 198, lot 754 (illustrated in P. Lemonnier, Adam Weisweiler, Paris, 1983, nr. 134, p.184). Another was offered at Sotheby's, Paris, 9 April 2008, lot 179.
