Mrs C. W. D. Steward, sold

Sotheby's, London, 19 June 1958, lot 151

A silver-mounted mother-of-pearl cup and cover (London, 1590) using an identical cast finial with this maker's mark was sold at Sotheby's, London, 24 March 1960, lot 46.

A note in the 1958 Sotheby's catalogue for the present lot mentions that it was shown at the Exhibition of English Decorative Art at Lansdowne House in 1929. The catalogue of the exhibition describes the cup as hallmarked for 1599 and lent by Mr Frank Cook. It therefore seem unlikely to be the same.
