Description
Pink Fluorite on Pyrite with Galena
Huanzala Mine, Huanzala, Huallanca District, Bolognesi Province, Ancash, Peru
15.6 x 23.2 x 11.5 cm (6⅛ x 9⅛ x 4½ in). With acrylic base and custom acrylic name plate.
Fluorite crystals of soft pastel to salmon pink are so numerous here and the coverage so complete on this large specimen that one almost forgets to appreciate the brilliant yellow-gold pyrite crystals that lie beneath. A shiny and smooth galena crystal is perched atop the specimen and nestled in amongst the pink fluorite crystals, with a few additional but smaller galena crystals scattered about.
From the famed Huanzala Mine where pairings of pink fluorite with pyrite were discovered in 1981, specimens such as this were once a worldwide sensation in the mineral collecting world. Now increasingly hard to find, a specimen of this size and aesthetic value would be a worthy addition to most collections.
