Philippe Missillier Collection no.137C
While a number of Ottoman blunderbusses with silver-gilt mounts survive, the openwork construction of the present example is rare. Three comparable blunderbusses without openwork decoration are now in the Wallace Collection, London (inv. nos.OA1858, OA2085, OA2086), one of which is signed ‘work of Darwish Amrullah. Another silver-gilt blunderbuss is in the Stephanis Foundation, Athens (inv. no.364) and attributed to the Ionian islands by Robert Elgood (Robert Elgood, The Arms of Greece and Her Balkan Neighbors in the Ottoman Period, London and New York: Thames & Hudson, 2009, p.174).
