These large-scale biscuit porcelain equestrian figures of French kings are from an impressive series produced at Sèvres in the first half of the 19^th century. Examples of Francois I, Louis IX, Henry IV, Louis XII, Charles V and Louis XIV, are held at the Capodimonte Museum, Naples, and the musée national du Château de Pau holds two models of François I (inventory nos. P 3397 and P 205) and two of Henri IV (inventory nos. P 472 and P 415). The incised 'Li' mark is probably for Augustin Liancé, a repairer, who active at the factory between 1806 and 1818.
