Description
[Golf] — Wood, Harry B.
Golfing Curios and "The Like." … With an Appendix comprising a "Bibliography of Golf," etc. London: Sherratt & Hughes, 1911
Large 8vo (292 x 232 mm, uncut). 35 photographic plates, including frontispiece, half-title, bibliography section bound with alternating blank leaves for annotation (unaccomplished in this copy); title-page lightly offset from tissue-guard. Publisher's half vellum over green cloth, spine gilt-lettered, plain endpapers and edges, original green cloth dust-jacket.
Limited edition, expanded from the first trade edition of the previous year; one of 150 copies on large paper. Presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author on the half-title: "To my old friend Auguste Heymann who like myself, received his first lesson in the 'Royal and Ancient Game' at Newton-le-Willows some 20 years ago. Harry B. Wood, May 1911." Wood and Heymann undoubtedly had their inaugural lessons at Haydock Park Golf Club, founded in 1877.
A fine copy of this important record of one of the earliest and most comprehensive collections of golfing memorabilia: clubs, balls, books, prints, medals, cups, trophies, badges, buttons, and more.
