Rare. One of two Lyonese counterfeit editions of the 1501 Aldine Petrarch, and among the earliest of all Aldine counterfeits.
8vo (158 x 98 mm). Italic type, 29 lines. collation: a-y8 z4 ($3) A8 (z4 a blank): 187 leaves (of 188l lacking A8, a blank.) (Restoration to lower corner of a6 and z2, a few stray spots.)
binding: English morocco by Charles Lewis (164 x 108 mm), with his circular morocco ticket, double blind fillet around sides, gilt quatrefoil in corners, inner rectangle of single gilt fillet flanked by blind fillets, gilt feather in corners, title on upper cover in gilt, spine gilt, vellum pastedowns and endleaves. Housed in red cloth slipcase and folding chemise.
