Maharana Jawan Singh (r.1828-38) of Udaipur is here depicted bathing with his noblemen in a pool at the Jag Niwas lake palace. In the painting as in life, the pool contains lotus-shaped parterres planted with ornamental foliage. A painting by Jairam depicting Maharana Jagat Singh II (r.1734-51) bathing in the same pool was published by Dipti Khera (Khera 2020, p.99). A painting depicting Maharana Jawan Singh at the Jag Niwas lake palace celebrating Holi with his noblemen, painted by Ghasi, was sold in these rooms, 26 April 1994, lot 49.
