the black silk ground embroidered with gilt-metal threads with a central roundel featuring Allah in thuluth, encircled by a calligraphic band on green silk, radiating rays, and red calligraphic roundels in each corner, mounted on a stretcher

Within the roundel: Allah jalla jalalahu, 'God, exalted be His glory'
In the band: Qur'an, surah al-fath, middle of verse 4 to end of verse 5, followed by the phrase that it is in the hand of Sultan Mahmud II (r.1808-39)
In the four roundels: al-rahman/ al-rahim/ al-malik / al-quddus, 'The Most Compassionate. The Most Merciful. The King. The Holy One'
