These works have been compared to the grisailles of the Italian-born Biagio Rebecca (1735–1808), an artist who made his fame in England painting decorative panels for neoclassical interiors.1 Rebecca was a prolific painter for country houses as well as London mansions, and his work included commissions for Kenwood House, Harewood House, Kedleston, Montagu House, Somerset House and Carlton House. A chimney board, showing grisaille figures on a classical vase, survives in the care of English Heritage at Audley End House, Essex.2
