THREE RARE "FAIRY STONES"

Aitibi region, Quebec, Canada

5.5 cm, 6 cm and 19 cm respectively. Each presented on a custom stand.

Conjuring the figures of insects, animals, or ancient Earth goddesses, so-called Fairy Stones are actually made up of fossilized clay found in Canadian glacier lakes. Likely formed about 10,000 years ago, the other-worldly figures came about when calcite entered the crystallized clay, with bacteria or algae acting as a catalyst. These rare figures were treasured by the First Nations People, who would wear them as jewelry, place them in their hommes, or present them as gifts to loved ones, as they were thought to bring luck, prosperity, and fertility.
