FOUR SPECIMENS OF PAESINE, OR "RUIN-MARBLE"

Tuscany, Italy

Ranging in size from 6 x 16 cm to 9.5 x 32 cm. In late 19th-early 20th century frames.

Paesine is a metamorphic limestone found in Italy. Thanks to the numerous natural cracks and mineral salts found in the stone, the stone appears to be painted with natural abstract landscapes, and the ruins of ancient cities. Paesine has always been considered an element par excellence in the greatest cabinets of curiosities.
