Flemish School, early 16th century

This charming Virgin and Child in a landscape with an angel was painted in the southern Netherlands in the early sixteenth century, possibly around 1520. Although the author has yet to be identified, the painting bears affinities to examples that arose in Bruges during this period. 

A painting with a composition closely comparable to the present example is recorded in the photo archive of M.J. Friedländer, who assigned that work to an anonymous Southern Netherlandish hand in the first quarter of the sixteenth century.¹
