Maurice Noble was a legendary animation artist during Animation's first golden age. Starting at Disney in the mid 1930s, first on the “Silly Symphony” shorts, then on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia and Dumbo. During WWII, Maurice worked on the “Private Snafu” shorts for Frank Capra's Army Signal Corps unit. There he met Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and animation director, Chuck Jones. It was Jones who eventually brought Maurice to Wanner Bros. Where he did layouts for some 60 shorts, including such classics as Duck Amuck, Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century and what many consider the greatest theatrical short ever made, What's Opera, Doc? After the Warner Bros.years, he worked on many projects, most notably with Jones and Geisel on the iconic holiday perennial, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

During Maurice's 60 year career in animation, he also spent considerable time creating fine art, specifically silkscreen prints. Offered at auction are two of his serigraphs, Moon Birds (ed/4) and Amapola Matilija (ed/18).
