A German silver-gilt, enamel and gold mounted gem set Ciborium, unmarked
early 17th century
domed cover surmounted by a medal of Pope Paul II (1468) flanked by kneeling angels, fitted with cushion-shaped rubies and square garnets, detachable calyx with three table cut sapphires in enameled gold mounts, one sapphire drilled, baluster cast stem fitted with three square paste stones, shaped circular foot, embossed, chased and cast with angels, angel’s masks, fruit and strapwork on matting, fitted with enameled Holy Monogram, image of the Passion and kneeling saint
