oval, the lid and base centred with an oval medallion chased with gardening trophies, dogs and turtle doves in front of classical architectural elements, within laurel wreath frames and crowned by rose gold ribbons, on a swagged and channelled ground within husk border alternating with flowers within c-scrolls, the sides decorated with chased gardening trophies and allegories of love within oval frames, all interconnected by a multicoloured gold leafy rose garland, maker's mark, charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre, Paris, date letter illegible, the right rim numbered: 231
