The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore is a bold, sportier evolution of the classic Royal Oak, introduced in 1993 to commemorate the original's 20th anniversary. Designed by Emmanuel Gueit, it took Gérald Genta’s iconic Royal Oak design and pushed it to new extremes with a larger, more rugged, and highly technical aesthetic. Key features of the Off Shore range were an increased case size proportions, from 42mm diameters upwards and The Offshore models typically feature a larger checkerboard texture than the standard Royal Oak’s Petite Tapisserie or Grande Tapisserie pattern. It’s not hyperbolic to say that the Off Shore range revolutionized Luxury Sports Watches: The Offshore set the trend for oversized luxury sports watches, and the mixing of multiple materials such a ceramic paving the way for brands like Hublot and Richard Mille.
The current example Ref. 26170ST.OO.1000ST.01 features an all steel case and integrated bracelet and is fitted with a sporty contrasting “Méga Tapisserie” white and black dial. The watch is powered by the AP Caliber 3126/3840, an automatic chronograph movement based on the in-house Caliber 3120 but with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module that features in excess of 50 hours of power reserve.
