Armin Strom is an older independent brand than many may realize, having been founded by Mr. Strom in the late 1960s. A master watchmaker himself, he originally did contract work for many major brands, specializing in skeletonizing movements and decorating them. So, while you may not be familiar with the name, chances are you’ve seen the brand’s work.

In the modern era, under the careful stewardship of Claude Greisler, the brand has become a fully integrated manufacture dedicated to the passionate pursuit of haute horlogerie—and this Mirrored Force Resonance exemplifies just that.

The concept of resonance draws inspiration from the Dutch mathematician Christiaan Huygens, who around 1665 observed two pendulum clocks placed on the same wall swinging in perfect synchrony. Antide Janvier (1751–1835), the legendary French clockmaker, succeeded in applying this principle to horology, creating “double pendulum clocks,” also called “resonance clocks,” and was the first to do so. Prior to the 20th century, only five resonance clocks existed—three made by Janvier and two later by Abraham-Louis Breguet.

The idea is that two separate movements, when placed close together, will begin to beat in harmony. Though independent, they operate as a synchronized couple. Armin Strom was not the first to explore this principle, but they added a unique twist. As the name Mirrored Force suggests, the two movements run in opposite directions, creating a visually dramatic effect. Additionally, the movement incorporates a resonance clutch spring—a patented component that visually demonstrates harmonic synchronization. This complex, ultra-thin carbon spring rests between the two escapements and vibrates in perfect harmony once resonance is achieved.

Furthermore, there is a pusher at the 3 o’clock position—not for a chronograph, but to stop and reset the movement, allowing the wearer to observe the process of the two movements syncing into resonance.

We are delighted to present such an exceptional piece of haute horlogerie from an important independent brand—one that has reimagined a centuries-old concept in an entirely contemporary and visually captivating way.
