Dedy Sufriadi explores existentialist themes in his work, often incorporating these ideas into his paintings as text. He uses text as an added layer to enhance the viewer’s understanding and as a form of citation. In his energetic paintings, abstract forms, charged phrases and floating symbols are layered in an all-over composition. The artist embraces a stream-of-consciousness process to explore the interplay between intelligence and intuition. As such, texts from existentialist theory can be found next to doodle-like drawings, both executed with similar gestures. This raw aesthetic recalls the work of Neo-Expressionist artists such as Julian Schnabel and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Sufriadi completed his Bachelor's and Master's in Fine Art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta. He gained critical recognition for his expressive paintings at art competitions such as Philip Morris Indonesia Art Award, Erlangga Art Award, AMPTA Yogyakarta, Winsor and Winsor and Newton Art Competition, among others. His work can be found in institutional collections such as OHD Museum, Nock Art Foundation, ILHAM Gallery and Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art.
