A Worcester Oval Dessert Basket, Circa 1770-72
pierced with basketwork and applied with florets at the intersections, painted, in the London atelier of James Giles, with a small spray of fruit including two plums, blueberries, an apple and two insects, gilt-rim, red anchor mark.

A number of small baskets painted in the atelier of James Giles are recorded, these include one which was in the collection of Thomas George Burn, sold, Christie's London, Ceramics from the Rous Lench Collection, May 29-30, 1990, lot 302. Another was in the Zorensky Collection, illustrated in Simon Spero and John Sandon, Collection catalogue, Woodbridge 1996, p. 332, fig. 410. A further example is illustrated in Robyn Robb, Fine 18th Century English Porcelain, London 2007, exh. cat., p. 6, cat. no. 3.
