The Rolex Explorer II was first introduced in 1989. It was in production for over 20 years and is a testimony of the transition from the vintage to the modern production. As an example, it went from tritium to luminova and superluminova as luminescent material.

Extremely reliable and the perfect companion, it is no surprise that the 16570 has gained lots of attention from the market in the recent years. The watch was available either with a white or a black dial, such as this lot, which is more faithful to the original 1655 ‘Steve McQueen’ model.

This example is preserved in most attractive condition, it is further distinguished by bearing a rare transitional “Swiss only” dial demonstrating the use of Luminova, a material used for 2 years only.
