FIRST EDITION, large folio (670 x 500mm.), title with list of plates and imprint, 21 double-page plates (see note), most engraved, a few aquatints and one mezzotint, by Laurie & Whittle, James Basire, S.I. Neele, R. Metcalf and others, some with hand-colour, some folding, modern blue half morocco, label on upper cover, original blue wrappers bound in, upper wrapper with original printed paper label, uncut, some folding plates with creases, plate 8 slightly frayed at folds and with small repaired tear, wrappers slightly worn and repaired


"Plate 1 gives details of the construction of London Bridge with soundings &c. taken in 1767, while the majority of the plates relate to proposals for its replacement, submitted to the committee by Ralph Dodd (plates 2, 3, 6 and 7), Thomas Wilson (pl. 8), Thomas Telford and James Douglas (pl. 10 and 12), and George Dance (pl. 13-17). Plate 21 showing Wren's design for rebuilding the City after the Great Fire, was engraved from a copy in the Library of All Souls by John Barlow, and re-engraved for this report by William Delamotte" (BAL RIBA cat).


In most copies a cancel slip was issued for the titlepage together with additional plates 22-24 and some additional letterpress leaves; the present copy appears to be an early issue without the cancel slip, additional plates and letterpress.
