The present watch is a hunting-case minute-repeating split-seconds chronograph, movement no. 97'047, combining two complications that represent the pinnacle of watchmaking craftsmanship from the golden age of technical horology. Furthermore, it is exceptionally rare to find a Patek Philippe minute-repeating split-seconds chronograph housed in a hunting case. To mitigate the high U.S. import duties imposed on complete gold-cased pocket watches, Patek Philippe often exported only the movements and dials to the United States, where Tiffany & Co. arranged for local casing. The present watch is a testament to the success of this strategy. Its movement features the classic open-face layout, yet it was originally cased in a hunting case, clearly reflecting the preferences of the local market and clientele.
