The present watch is a gold and enamel duplex pocket watch made for the Chinese market, combining a high-quality movement by Ilbery with exquisite enamel craftsmanship. The movement is fitted with a duplex escapement, a mechanism invented by Robert Hooke around 1700 and later patented in 1782 by the Clerkenwell watchmaker Thomas Tyrer. The duplex escapement was widely used in high-quality English pocket watches from approximately 1790 to 1860. The case is decorated with green guilloché enamel and diamond-set ornamentation, creating a vibrant play of light and enhancing its visual appeal. More notably, green enamel is rarely encountered on antique pocket watches, making the present example particularly distinctive and desirable.
